About Ann Bordwine Beeder, M.D.
I have sustained and developed several unique treatment programs using innovative integrated care models for patients struggling with addiction, medical and psychiatric problems that require a multidisciplinary treatment approach. Over the past twenty years at WCMC, I have provided clinical care, program development, regulatory administrative leadership, education, and research aimed at understanding the problems -- and enhancing the lives -- of often- indigent individuals in need of medical care.
Ann B. Beeder, M.D. is the Jeanette and Jeffrey Lasdon Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Psychiatry at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She is the Chief of Public Health Programs in the Department of Medicine and directs outpatient clinical care at programs in the division, teaches and does clinical research.
Dr. Beeder holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a medical degree from George Washington University. She completed both her residency and fellowship in psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Payne Whitney Clinic.
Dr. Beeder's research interests include translational medicine in viral hepatitis, alcohol and substance abuse disorders and psychiatric illnesses. She and hepatologist, Andrew Talal, MD have a Clinton Global Initiative Award to develop novel prognostic and treatment biomarkers for Viral Hepatitis. Dr. Beeder has an interest in developing programs using the Arts to treat patients with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. She has a Four Friends Foundation Award applied toward developing this interest.
She, Zachary Iscol and Gerard Ilaria co-founded The Headstrong Project, a partnership between WCMC and Headstrong Project. The program’s goal is to help veterans reduce the crippling symptoms associated with combat PTSD, including suicidal ideation. Veterans who receive tailored and consistent mental health treatment enjoy improvement in their emotional well-being, better sleep, better home and work relationships, and a reduction of harmful behaviors including excessive substance use. Veterans needing help are identified through direct veteran-to-veteran outreach, and THROUGH self-referral by means of ads in social media and the project’s website, . Veterans are also referred through our partnerships with Veteran Service Organizations in the NYC metropolitan area. Veterans are screened and assessed before the veteran and clinician work together to craft a course of treatment tailored to the individual veteran’s needs This can include phases of treatment such as stabilization, traumatic memory processing, substance use treatment, family treatment, and re- integration including work readiness and socialization.
