Personal Statement

I am an oncologist and physician-scientist with a focus on cellular and immune -based therapies. I have been involved with cancer research for over 20 years. I am driven as a physician to help people with cancer, as well as their families, undergo what can be a challenging ordeal of being diagnosed with cancer and the subsequent treatment journey. At the same time, I am driven to use science to better understand the mysteries of cancer biology in order to unlock new ways to treat aggressive tumors.

Cell therapies, including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, are a new and powerful tool to use against cancer. My clinical focus is to provide these treatments to cancer patients, using established therapies for hematologic malignancies, and experimental therapies for aggressive solid tumors. We continue to refine the science and clinical practice of cellular therapies in order to make them more effective against cancer and, at the same time, safer for patients. The focus of my laboratory research is to develop new cell therapies for solid tumors, and to bring these novel agents into clinical trials.

Although oncologists recognize the impressive potential of new therapies to treat cancer, I appreciate that the process of undergoing treatment can be daunting for patients. At ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, I am proud to be part of an excellent interdisciplinary team of oncologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, specialists, and researchers, who are all focused on the goals of making the patient experience with cancer care as accessible, manageable, safe, and comfortable as possible, while simultaneously using the most cutting-edge treatments available to achieve the best outcomes.

Biographical Info

Dr. Chris Hackett received his BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford University in 2000. After doing biomedical research in industry and academia, he then pursued graduate studies in cancer genomics at the University of California, San Francisco, where he earned his PhD in 2010. Seeking to become a physician-scientist, he then earned his medical degree (MD) from the University of Minnesota in 2014. He then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), where he focused on solid tumor oncology in the clinic and carried out laboratory research to design T cell therapies for cancer. Following fellowship, Dr. Hackett was an attending on the Cellular Therapeutics Service at MSK, where he focused on treating patients with CAR T cells, Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TIL) and other cell therapies. In 2023, he joined the Bone Marrow Transplant Service at ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he continues to both treat patients with cellular therapies and conduct research to develop new cell therapies for solid tumors.
