About Elizabeth Schulman, M.D.
Dr. Elizabeth Schulman received her Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and her medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian –ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ followed by a chief residency in Internal Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She then pursued a fellowship in Rheumatology at the Hospital for Special Surgery. She has been a member of the American College of Rheumatology since 2011 and obtained her certification in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Rheumatology through the American College of Rheumatology in 2016. Prior to joining ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ in 2019, she was an Assistant Professor in Rheumatology at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
Dr. Schulman specializes in the care of patients with various autoimmune and rheumatic conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative inflammatory arthritis (psoriatic and IBD-associated), systemic lupus erythematosus, and general rheumatology. She uses musculoskeletal ultrasound to aid in early detection of disease as well as for therapeutic injections. Her research has focused on the impact of obesity on remission rates in rheumatoid arthritis and the efficacy of varying drug therapies in rheumatoid arthritis. She also is interested in medical education and enjoys teaching learners at all levels.
In caring for patients with chronic conditions, Dr. Schulman’s priority is to develop meaningful patient-physician relationships and to empower patients to be advocates in their own healthcare journey while providing expertise and knowledge to guide patients towards the right personal treatment plan.
