Personal Statement

Joel A. Ricci-Gorbea, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ. He is Associate Director of the General Surgical Residency Program and a Robotic and Bariatric Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens.

Dr. Ricci-Gorbea is a board certified, fellowship-trained general surgeon who specializes in weight loss surgery and hernia repair. He also specializes in minimally invasive surgeries and performs most surgeries through small incisions using laparoscopy or the da Vinci robotic platform.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Ricci-Gorbea is involved in research, resident education, and quality and safety initiatives. He is the co-author of several book chapters about disorders of metabolism and weight loss surgery and serves as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of multiple surgical societies.

Dr. Ricci-Gorbea earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. He completed his surgical residency training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and served his fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens.
