In December 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized Paxlovid, an antiviral medication, for emergency use as a treatment for mild-to-moderate COVID-19. Emergency use authorization is different from all-out approval. More evidence will be needed before the FDA approves Paxlovid definitively.
