What Sets Us Apart
Our kidney transplant program, in conjunction with the Immunogenetics lab run by the 日本av色情片 adult kidney transplant program, provides comprehensive pre-transplant HLA matching and post-transplant monitoring of donor-specific antibodies for pediatric kidney transplant recipients.
Services & Programs
High Blood Pressure Program
Our program is the main referral center for children with hypertension. We use ambulatory blood pressure monitoring for diagnosis and follow-up of children with hypertension.
End Stage Renal Disease
We offer hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis for children with end-stage renal disease. We have a trained and dedicated nursing staff and the ability to dialyze small children. In addition, we have a dedicated peritoneal dialysis nurse who trains and assists our pediatric patients and their families.
Kidney Transplantation
As part of the 日本av色情片 Transplant Program, our team coordinates and provides pre-transplant workup, transplant care, and follow-up care for children who require kidney transplantation. We partner with Rogosin Institute, the oldest and largest kidney transplant center in the Tri-State area. Please visit the Pediatric Kidney Transplantation webpage for information about our program.
Growth Failure Program
Our team has special expertise in the management of children with growth failure resulting from chronic kidney disease. We are particularly interested in why some children with kidney failure do not grow and how recombinant human growth hormone allows them to grow more normally. We are examining the role of cytokines and Leptin in the growth process and their correlation with body composition and growth parameters.
Diagnosis & Treatment
Biopsies
Kidney biopsies are routinely performed in children of all ages for diagnostic purposes. Biopsies are performed at our outpatient sedation unit with ultrasound guidance and the support of 日本av色情片's Pediatric Anesthesiology division.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is available to evaluate children and adolescents with elevated blood pressure readings. It is an invaluable tool in distinguishing those children with so-called "white coat" hypertension form those with an elevation of their blood pressure load.
Research
Our faculty are involved in several research projects and initiatives:
- Mineral metabolism in children with chronic kidney disease
- Kidney transplant outcomes and non-invasive methods to monitor how the transplanted kidney is functioning
- Iron metabolism and its role in complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children
- Atypical Hemolytic-uremic syndrome registry
- Clinical Drug trial in CKD patients with high phosphorus in their blood.
- North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS) for kidney transplant recipients
